Helen Baker

Hi Everyone, I'm Helen the founder of Still Life Drawing Eastbourne, let me tell you a little about myself. I am a Trained Textile designer, Artist, Art Tutor, Wife and Mama who lives close to the sea in sunny Eastbourne.

With a background in Textile Design I'm inspired by the patterns and textures found in nature and the everyday objects around me. I have a passion for drawing flowers and natural forms, I feel my most alive being out in nature and pockets filled with dried leaves, seed heads and sea shells that I like the look of! I can also be found rummaging through charity shops and car boot fairs. A lover of cosy interior design, collecting vintage fabrics and drinking tea from delicate vintage teacups.

My favourite mediums to work with are graphite pencils, fine liner pens, drawing with my trusty old bamboo stick dipped in ink along with watercolours painting. I strongly believe in the mindful benifits of still life drawing, slowing down and taking notice of the small details, loosing yourself in the creative flow drawing brings. Also its a great way to practice or build your artistic skills, delvelope your techniques and grow with confidence.

One of my absoulte favourite things about running Still Life Drawing sessions is seeing people grow with confidence and self belief session by session.

“Helen is a fabulous, and patient teacher who has sat with me and taught me techniques on a one to one.
I have already learnt so much in my first two lessons, and I look forward to the next class, and what display she will create for us to draw.
She lets me go at my own pace as im learning to draw with my non dominant hand, due to my dominant hand no longer working."
